Not only the record label, but also the line-up of the band changed, Jim Mitchell (drums) was replaced by John "Beatz" Holohan and Andrew Elderbaum (bass) was replaced by Nick Ghanbarian. In the following year the next album Sirens and Condolences was released, meanwhile the Bayside had changed the label and was now under contract with Victory Records. In 2003 the second studio album Split was released, which Bayside recorded together with the poppunk band Name Taken.

The band went on tour and the first EP Long Stories Short was released in 2001 under the indie label Dying Wish Records. Under the influence of bands like Smoking Popes, The Cure, The Smiths and Nirvana, they developed their own style, which is mainly expressed through meaningful lyrics and powerful guitar sounds. Bayside originated in Long Island, New York during the winter of 2000.
